Campaign Update 6/13/2010
I spent the last week attending important events in House District 61. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with my friends and constituents at the joint meeting of the Gunnison and Arkansas River Roundtables in Salida, the Friends of the National Rifle Association banquet, the Gunnison County Stockgrowers Banquet, the Roaring Fork River Summit in Glenwood Springs, and just today the Western State College quarterly Board of Trustees meeting. For everyone’s information neither of my opponents were in attendance at any of these meetings.
Also this past Wednesday the Governor signed my wildlife crossing bill, HB1238, at a ceremony in Vail. This bill allows the Colorado Department of Transportation to establish wildlife crossing zones on state highways in key wildlife migration areas. Up to 100 total linear miles of highway can be designated with lower speeds and double fines in order to reduce wildlife collisions. Revenue from fines can only be used to purchase signage for the zones or other materials designed to reduce collisions. The bill also requires the CDOT to report back to the legislature regarding the establishment of the zones and the impact on the number of collisions.
I also want to announce the opening of my campaign headquarters in Gunnison. The campaign office is located on the west side of town, just off Highway 50, adjacent to the H&H Towing operation. We will be staffing the office with volunteers as much as possible if you want to stop by and see us or pick up materials, and when I am not traveling the district you can find me there as well.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the Strawberry Days Parade on Saturday the 19th in Glenwood. Feel free to come and ride in the parade with me! Just look for the Gould Construction lowboy trailer at the parade staging area downtown. See you there!
